Get Involved.
Volunteer.
We have an ongoing need for volunteers to support our fundraising, development, grant writing, and replication. We are also in need of volunteers with expertise in LGBTQ+ and gender studies, as well as curriculum-building as we continue to develop the program. If you're interested, please contact Billie Mizell at [email protected].
Be a Change Agent.
The United States incarcerates more people than any other nation in the world. The largest Death Row in the Western Hemisphere is at San Quentin State Prison in Marin, California. Nearly 40,000 of California's prisoners are serving life sentences. Most of those in the ALIGHT's programs are serving life sentences; most have been incarcerated since they were teenagers.
Our national response to violence has resulted in a mass incarceration crisis, with tens of thousands of transformed, creative, thoughtful, compassionate human beings remaining locked away from their families and communities for decades. ALIGHT is dedicated to shining a light on the truth about who is incarcerated in this country, while simultaneously creating paths to reduce violence. You can partner with us by educating yourself and others about mass incarceration and the real human lives impacted by this crisis. Thank you for visiting here. We hope to see more of you.
